Map Measurement Tool Examples

Area

The measure area command allows you to get quick area measurements to better estimate usage quantities.

Example 1

I want to estimate the green space in a section of my park to determine how much mulch is required. Select the Measure Area command, select the desired units of measure and draw a polygon around that area to estimate.

Example 2

I want to estimate the area on my roofing system to purchase enough materials to resurface. Select the Measure Area command, select the desired units of measure and draw a polygon around that area to estimate.

Linear

The measure distance command allows you to get quick linear measurements to better estimate usage quantities.

Example 1

I know how many linear feet I can cold patch potholes on pavement. Select the Linear Distance and measure distances along pavement segments to determine which pavement segments to create tasks to repair the potholes.

Example 2

I need to estimate the linear feet of fence I will need to install around the proposed dog park. Select the Linear Distance tool and measure the distance around the proposed areas to determine an estimated total distance required.

Coordinate

The measure Locations command allows you to get latitude and longitude coordinates for a point.

Example

I need to verify the latitude and longitude coordinates provided by a survey crew to find my corresponding assets. Select the measure Locations command and move the cursor around the map to see the coordinates tracking. Once you are near the area, select the location to lock the coordinates so you can review the assets nearby.
