Create Field Validation Rules

You must have administrator rights to access this feature.

  1. Click 2018-04-17_0919.png>Structure Manager.
  2. Locate the recordset that contains the field to edit.
  3. Select the field.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Enter the Validation Rule.
  6. Enter Validation Text to create a message that displays when data violates the validation rules. Validation Error displays by default.
  7. Click Save
  8. If this is the only change being made, click Publish. If there are other changes to be made, then you can Publish after all the changes are made.

Example

This example could be added to the Cost field for labor logs if negative values are not allowed in the Hours field.

Field validation rules can reference other fields in them as in this example.

  1. Click 2018-04-17_0919.png>Structure Manager.
  2. Locate the Labor\Log recordset.
  3. Select the Cost field.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Enter ([Hours]>=0) in the Validation Rule field.
  6. Enter Negative numbers are not allowed in Hours in the Validation Text field.
  7. Click Save
  8. If this is the only change being made, click Publish. If there are other changes to be made, then you can Publish after all the changes are made.
