New Recordset and Library Names

This feature requires a Cartegraph OMS license.

Recordsets and libraries are created in Structure Manager.

Use the following guidelines to choose a new recordset or library name:

Plural Name

  • May contain uppercase letters.
  • May contain lowercase.
  • May contain numeric characters.
  • Recommend that name not be greater than 30 characters but will allow up to 254 characters
  • Limit the use of abbreviations. If used, be consistent among applications and use common, easy to understand abbreviations.
  • Avoid acronyms.
  • May contain spaces or underscore between words.
  • Must be unique name - different from any other recordset name.
  • Cannot be OID.
  • These special characters not allowed, ( ) [ ] { }

Singular Name

The Plural Name is entered first and the Singular Name is automatically created from the Plural Name. The Singular Name can be altered, if desired, following the same rules as for Plural Name.

ID

  • The ID is used as a unique identifier for the recordset.
  • The ID must not contain spaces between words.
  • The Plural Name automatically populates in the ID field with spaces removed.
  • The ID cannot be changed once it is saved.
  • Cannot start with OID.
  • Cannot start with cg.
  • Cannot start with a number.
  • Cannot contain spaces.
  • Cartegraph recommends the name not be greater than 30 characters but allows up to 254 characters.

Table Name

  • The Table Name is a unique identifier of the database table used with the recordset.
  • Maximum characters is 30.
  • Plural Name automatically populates in the Table Name field with spaces removed.
  • If the Plural Name is greater than 30 characters, then the system prompts you to change the Table Name to a shorter value.
  • Cannot start with OID.
  • Cannot start with a number.
  • Cannot start with cg.
  • Cannot contain spaces.
  • Cannot use SQL reserved words.
