About Container/Component Asset Connections

The Editing Asset Connections screen is the starting point for all actions to add or remove from the container. There are different ways to add or remove a component asset that has a location versus those without a location.

NOTE: Existing asset connections work in Cartegraph AMS, but it requires an enterprise license to create more connections.

Connect Component Assets to a Container

  • Add component assets with a location by selecting the check box in these three places:
  • Map tip
  • Summary tip
  • List view
  • The Select check box is disabled on assets already connected to the container.

Remove Component Assets from a Container

Remove component assets using the Editing Asset Connections screen.

There are different steps to remove a component asset that has a location versus one that does not have a location.

  • Remove component assets with a location by selecting the check box in these three places:
  • Map tip
  • Summary tip
  • List view
  • The Remove button is enabled on assets that are already components of the container.

Connect or Remove Non Location Assets

  • Click the Non Location Asset button on the Editing Asset Connections screen to connect or remove these assets.
  • Non Location assets connected to the container display for easy removal from the List view.
  • All asset types, that qualify as components to the container asset type, are available for any non location asset to be connected to the container.

Select Asset Connections

Some assets may have multiple asset connection options available when connecting the component asset to the container. For example, a pipe may be an upstream or downstream pipe to the sewer main. When connecting the pipe to the sewer main container, you are prompted to select the appropriate asset connection.

Edit an Existing Container Connection

There are a couple scenarios where the user may be prompted about an existing connection when trying to add a component to a container:

  • An asset may be connected to a container and needs to be connected to another container.
  • You are not aware of an existing asset connection and when they attempt to connect an asset to a container, they are warned about the existing connection.
  • You chose an invalid correct asset to connect and that asset is already connected to another container.

When the warning displays, choose to keep the current asset connection or add the asset to the other container.

Connection Display Cues

To see which assets are already connected and those not connected, the assets display in a lighter or darker color on the Editing Asset Connections map screen:

  • Connected assets display in the darker color.
  • Disconnected asset display in the lighter color.
  • In the Map view, the asset total counts display and update as the map moves.
