# Maximum Usage and Average Daily Usage Calculations

This explains how Usage and Average Usage fields are calculated when an Equipment Task or Fuel Log entry is created, updated, or deleted.

## Maximum Usage

When an Equipment Task or Fuel Log is created, updated, or deleted, the maximum usage value is placed in the Assets Usage field.

Example

• Activity: Inspection
• Miles: 400
• Completed On: 12/2/2013

Fuel Log Data:

• Activity: Inspection
• Miles: 425
• Entered On: 12/2/2013

The Asset Usage Field is 425 from the Fuel Log because it is the highest Usage value.

If the Asset has a value in the Meter Reset Date and there are no newer Tasks or Fuel Logs, the Baseline Meter field is used as the current Usage.

## Average Daily Usage

When an Equipment task or Fuel Log is created, updated, or deleted, the Average Daily Usage is calculated based on the oldest Tasks or Fuel Log, up to a year old, and the newest Tasks or Fuel Log value.

Example

Record 1:

• Activity: Inspection
• Miles: 40
• Completed On: 12/5/2012

Record 2

• Activity: Inspection
• Miles: 700
• Completed On: 12/1/2013

Fuel Log Data:

Record 1:

• Miles: 35
• Entered On: 12/1/2012

Record 2:

• Miles: 775
• Entered On: 12/2/2013

The calculation uses the mileage from Task Data Record 1 for the starting value. Fuel Log record 1 is over one year old. The calculation then uses Fuel Log Record 2 as it is the newest record of the four.

The math would be as follows if it ran on 12/2/2013:

(775 - 40) divided by 363 days (12/2/2013 - 12/5/2012)

Average Daily Usage = 2.02 Miles a day
