3 Reasons to Transition from Navigator to Cartegraph OMS

Change is never an easy thing. For example, the first of the year brings on resolutions, gym memberships skyrocket, and thousands proclaim that they are going to do something “this year” that they have never done before. Unfortunately, many of these new determinations fall by the wayside as the old habits come back, life gets busy, and the original enthusiasm that accompanied the resolutions for change subsides.

However, there are also many success stories. People who realize that their normal routine will no longer result in the changes they desire, make a fresh determination, and follow through to success. What these successful people often realize is that the fear that kept them from the change they desired was just a shadow. In other words, the change was not only worth it, the fear they had seemed much larger than it really was.

These success stories happen when individuals make a decision that they are going to improve, grow, face new challenges, and be successful no matter what. They seek out new solutions and follow through, discovering that their new reality is so good, they often proclaim, “If I would have known my life would be this much better, I would have changed long ago.”

In light of these realities, you have the same kind of opportunity with Cartegraph. While using Cartegraph 8 (Navigator) is wonderful and assists you in tracking work, managing assets, and saving money (I myself was a Navigator user for 5 years and reaped tremendous benefits), it may be time to for a change. Transitioning to Cartegraph’s web-based Operations Management System (OMS) will take your day-to-day operations to a whole new level. Here are three reasons to make the change:

The interface is user-friendly.

The interface of Cartegraph OMS is not only new and improved; it is the newest and best technology available. The user experience and user interface are striking in their beauty, simplicity, and intuitive nature. Cartegraph OMS was designed for everyone in your organization—from the managers in the office to the crews in the field. As a matter of fact, customers who have migrated from Navigator to Cartegraph OMS tell us their field crews were able to learn the new mobile app within a matter of 1-2 days!

Personally, I have seen this first-hand. As I said earlier, I was a customer of Cartegraph’s before I became an employee. I used Navigator for over 5 years, but when I came to Cartegraph as an employee I was tasked with learning Cartegraph OMS as quickly as possible. What I quickly discovered was that I learned Cartegraph OMS in less than half the time it took me to learn Navigator.

Reporting is simplified and readily available.

New data presentation in Cartegraph OMS replaces many Cartegraph 8 reports; the numbers are available at a glance. If you need to share the data outside the system, you can easily export information from virtually every area of the software to a .csv file, so that Excel can be used to further sort, assemble, and share data. Another easy way to create a report is by simply opening a work order and clicking a button. Instantly, a report is created as a .pdf file that lists all of the details of the work order. This report can be saved, emailed, or seen on the map.

Think about how helpful that would be if you wanted to share data with someone in your office or if you took your computer to a meeting. With traditional reports, as soon as you click “print” the report is out of date. By displaying live data on a map, your report is a live and up-to-the-minute representation of your operation.

There's an ArcGIS map on nearly every screen.

One of the biggest changes that will enhance your experience as you move from Cartegraph 8 is the seamless integration with the ArcGIS platform. In Cartegraph OMS, Esri maps are embedded on nearly every page of the software, unlocking spatial data for enhanced decision-making. A bidirectional sync pushes data from Cartegraph to ArcGIS and vice versa—making it easy to update information that is important to both systems.

Imagine the powerful spatial analysis and mapping tools of ArcGIS, combined with the robust asset and operations management tools of Cartegraph. Maps can be used to display and analyze data, which will help you recognize trends and solve problems.

Conclusion

The value of Cartegraph OMS is definitely not limited to mere features and functions. Those are simply the means to an end. The true value of Cartegraph is in its ability to produce data that will transform your operation from reactive response to proactive planning. It takes the best people using the best technology to create the best data. That data will empower you to make decisions that will save you thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars over time.

So, make a determination today that your organization is going to transition to Cartegraph OMS. Yes, it’s a change from what you are currently using, but like those successful people I mentioned in the first part of this article, you will be very glad you did it. Trust me, I know.
